Deadline for 2024 candidates to change their party affiliation June 11

If you’re thinking about running for office in 2024 and want to change your party affiliation, the deadline to make a switch is June 11.

Florida law requires the following two items:

— A person seeking nomination as a candidate of a political party to be a member of that political party for the 365 days BEFORE the beginning of the applicable qualifying period.

— A person seeking to qualify for office as a candidate with no party affiliation to not be a member of any political party for the 364 days BEFORE the beginning of the applicable qualifying period.

The second qualifying period for 2024 — which includes offices for State Senator, State Representative, County Office and Special Districts — is noon Monday, June 10, 2024, through noon Friday, June 14, 2024.

The last day for anyone looking to run for office in 2024 to make an applicable party affiliation change is June 11, 2023, for the person to meet the 365-day requirement.

We wanted to point out that because 2024 is a leap year, the qualifying date is pushed back one day.
